I was born into a hard working Yorkshire family and moved to S. Africa when I was young. This had a marked effect; seeing the injustice and poverty of many alongside the privilege of the ruling elite. I returned to work and education in the UK; including Labourer, Engineer, Teacher, Firefighter & tour guide for people with a disability. My family and I (wife and two children) moved to Stobhill where we have lived for many years. My upbringing, experiences & work in a wide variety of jobs, have given me a sense of a need for justice and fairness; core LibDem values. Becoming involved in local groups, I have helped people campaign on a variety of issues to achieve some remarkable successes. I was persuaded to stand as District Councillor. Few thought we could win but again with hard work and involving local people we not only won but moved on to win the county council, overturning a “safe” Labour seat; proving that no seat is unwinnable. This spirit is in North Durham where I have been chosen as Lib Dem candidate for the general election. We are campaigning to change N. Durham, to overturn the arrogance of the Labour rulers, and prove again that, together, we can make a difference.
